Meet Carolyn Weaver - host of Tech Books
From the time Carolyn Weaver was a little girl growing up in Toronto, she was always fascinated with stories. Whether it was fictional tales passed on from her grandparents, or books that she discovered and learned to read on her own, stories were, and still remain, the source of Carolyn’s inspiration.
“Stories inspired me as a child and they inspire me now. Every relationship begins with a story and the more stories shared and told, the deeper the bond.”
Carolyn Weaver attended a French immersion primary school and like many children her age, participated in sports, piano lessons, and school choir but unlike most other children, Weaver preferred to be curled up with a good book. As she grew older, so did her love of literature. She completed her OAC diploma in Cambridge, England. Her university stud-is lead her to Tennessee, Oxford and eventually to Trinity College at the University of Toronto where she completed an Honours Degree in English literature and continues to take courses.
Weaver has a fascination with stories of people from different countries. Her travels to Europe, Africa and Russia had a tremendous effect on her life. “As I got older and traveled to other provinces and countries, I found stories that made me see my own life in a new light.”
This fascination led her to move to Costa Rica for three years where she worked for KPMG Peat Marwick as a Marketing and International Communications Manager. While in Costa Rica, she would read Canadian novels and then pass them on to her friends. Upon returning to Canada, she worked at IBM where she held the title “Direct Marketing Specialist.” In 1999, she reformatted the opera magazine, Arias, which was met with rave reviews by Globe readers. “It is refreshingly re-thought and I think most impressive,” said Richard Bradshaw, General Director of the Canadian Opera Company.
In January 2001, Weaver, as host and producer, created Fine Print, a book-based talk show, to profile authors. “I wanted to create a venue to share the excitement that our authors are generating around the world, with the community at home. The accomplishments of Canadian writers reflect the potential of every member of the community.” Weaver is successfully accomplishing her goal to profile authors and is thrilled Fine Print is in its second season as a nationally syndicated show.
Powered by a strong work ethic, high energy, and an optimistic attitude, Weaver is most definitely up for the challenge of including Fine Print Magazine to her list of accomplishments. Weaver says, “All projects are vehicles to challenge yourself and see how you can stretch and grow while contributing to something larger.”
The importance of contributing to the community led Weaver to create Fine Print’s Outreach Program. This program provides new books for women and children in GTA shelters.
