Writing Your Own Video Games
Blake, Beamsville, ON
Q: Hello leo, andy, and amber,I am 11 years old and love your show. I live in beamsville, which is just half an hour away from toronto. I would like to know about making video games.I want to learn to make pc games, but i do not want to learn a knew code such as html.(which i know) Could you reccomend any programs which i could make simple games which is free?
Start by modding your favorite game. Unreal and Doom come with mod tools. Once you've mastered that you can try standalone development tools like Gmax.
Dmoz has a directory of tools that can do this at http://dmoz.org/Games/Video_Games/Game_Design/Development_Tools_and_Software/
Here are a couple I like:
- Gmax: http://www4.discreet.com/gmax/
- Crystal: crystal.sourceforge.net
