Andy Walker - Bio

Andy Walker is one of North America's top technology journalists. He started working in technology at the birth of the consumer Internet, when he was the producer of Prodigy Canada in 1994. In 1995, while at Southam Newspapers, he was a key architect of Canada.com and deployed the site’s first interactive features. Andy went on to train at MSNBC and then was part of the pioneering team that launched Microsoft's entry into Canadian news on MSN.ca between 1997 and 1999.

During this remarkable period of Internet history, Andy leveraged his career as a journalist by writing about technology for the Edmonton Journal newspaper. Subsequently, his column "Cyberwalker", a tech advice column became syndicated across the Southam newspaper chain. It’s the basis for Walker’s tech advice site CyberWalker.com, which attracts millions of people each year.

Andy went on to write for some of Canada's most prestigious news outlets including the National Post, the Ottawa Citizen and Fast Forward, the Toronto Star's award-winning technology section. On-line, he has been read by millions on MoneySense.ca, Onvia.com, ideacafe.com, Dig-it.com and Sympatico.ca. His work has been syndicated across North America and around the world and he has been translated into French, Spanish and Italian.

Andy, 37, has contributed to the highly acclaimed enRoute magazine and to MoneySense, Canada's foremost personal finance magazine, where he was feature on the cover in Oct 2003. Andy has also appeared as a tech expert on hundreds of TV and radio broadcasts. He reported live by phone to Toronto-based Citytv's coverage of the 9/11 terrorist attacks from New York City after witnessing the disaster first hand.

Between 2002 and 2004, Andy was the executive editor of Berkeley, CA based Dig_iT magazine, a publication focused on the digital lifestyle. It was started by David Bunnell and Fred Davis, the publishing pioneers behind PC magazine, PC World, MacUser and MacWorld. With Bunnell, he also launched the LongLifeClub.com, a baby boomer's guide to health and longevity.

Today, Andy co-hosts and is co-producer of Call for Help. He was born in the UK, educated and raised in Canada and now lives in Toronto with a cat named Roo (who makes the occasional appearance on the show) and a house full of tech gear.

Andy also writes a biweekly technology "how-to" and a biweekly tech product review column for MoneySense.ca.
